There are two main types of Easter messages, those for friends and family as a general “enjoy your chocolate and family time”, and the religious type. Whilst cards aren’t as commonly given for Easter as they are for other occasions such as Christmas or birthdays, this means giving them makes them a little more special. As mentioned, chocolate is a common association with Easter, but so are hot cross buns, bunnies, eggs, fish, rebirth and resurrection, cleansing of sins, death and joy. Use these common themes to inspire you. Along with thoughts of family gatherings, egg hunts, smiling faces with chocolate smears at the corner of mouths, foil wrappings strewn across the floor and ribbons. And don’t forget the sugarlicious candy egg that sometimes gets passed around for everyone to crack a tooth on.
How to Create the Perfect Card - Examples
Easter message examples for kids:
Keep messages for children fun and light. Think of the magic of the season when you were a kid. Bunnies, eggs and Easter egg hunts. Bonnets. Painting/dying eggs. Family time.
- “With a bounce and a hop, a cotton tail flop, a twitch of a nose, away with the eggs, a fluffy bunny goes.”
- “Candy, Hot cross buns. Opening foil. Cocoa treats. Ovens baking. Loving hugs from less seen relatives. Aunty kisses. Tails that fluff and flop. Egg hunts in the backyard.”
- “Easter means choc’late. As all kids, old and young know. So buy easter eggs.”
- Why not use the card as part of an egg hunt.
- “Whoever has the most eggs wins.”
- “Your stomach isn’t as big as your eyes, so don’t forget to share.”
- “Easter eggs are like pokemon, gotta collect ‘em all.”
Or, you could give each child a different card with different clues on it as to where some eggs can be found.
- “Under a bed, in the shed, all around the yard, inside a coat, where you would find a boat, you’ll have to think hard.”
- “Look under, over, inside and out. Look high, low, left and right. Some are hidden in the dark, some in the light.”
- “Open a jar. Or maybe a chilled door. Move a hat. Or a plastic, sometimes wet wall.”
Another idea is to give each child a different coloured basket, and only the eggs of their basket colour will contribute to their total for a special prize for whoever gets the most. The other colours they collect can be traded, but they have to give 2 eggs of the other colour for 1 of their own colour. Use the cards to explain the rules in rhyme.
- “Whatever colour your basket be, is the colour you have to collect for me. If you get another’s colour though, you can trade 2 of theirs for 1 of your own.”
Easter message examples for family:
This is a time for family to get together, interact with the kids and fill up on chocolate, hot cross buns and fish. Plus it is usually a four day weekend.
- “Raisins in self-raising, hot are the hot cross buns. Chocolaty chocolate eggs, being unwrapped one by one.”
- “The Easter bunny has come and gone, but instead of chocolate, we’re full of family love.”
- “Nothing is as soft as a grandparent’s heart when they get an overdue hug from a loved one.”
- “I just hopped by to wish you a happy Easter.”
- “Peace and chocolate to all on this glorious long weekend.”
Religious Easter message examples:
As a religious holiday, you can always turn to the bible to get inspiration for a more religiously toned message or quote a verse.
- “As he did, so shall you; Come out from the depths, soul and body renewed.”
- “Take this moment to reflect on the opportunity for rebirth.”
- “No one can kill your spirit but your lack of faith.”
- “A time to reflect on the sins you have been forgiven for before you even committed them.”
Funny Easter message examples:
Why not try a less traditional type of card and add some holiday humour or a cheeky spirit into your message.
- “Don’t be caught with egg on your face. Remember to hose yourself off after you eat your kids’ chocolates.”
- “May the egg hunt keep the monsters entertained long enough to finish a bottle of wine.”
- “Ever wondered why chocolate is brown or how the Easter bunny “makes” the eggs…more for the kids!”
- “May your buns be spicy and hot and enjoyed by someone special.”
- “May your buns rise like Jesus.”
